Good things!
First - we made it on the Summerfest compilation disc. Thanks so much to all of you that voted for us! That's going to be well worth it. Second - we've got a release date set for the record! Sept. 11th. All involved realize that is an ominous date, however, national releases fall on Tuesdays and that's the one we got. Let the world know we're taking 9/11 back! Thirdly - We've scheduled a Springfield show for July 26th with Ludo and Cornbelt Chorus at Remington's Downtown. ... and finally, we're back on the road this week and feeling really good about it. To the pavement!

June 8th - even though it says June 25th...
Some summer!!
Well, we just got the news for some pretty sweet things, and I thought we should go ahead and let our loyals know all about it. :) We're going to be playing Snowfest in Springfield, MO on the 23rd of this month. We'll probably play between 5 and 6, and it's at Jordan Valley Park. Also - you should go to our myspace and vote for us to be on the Summerfest compilation disc. Voting ends June 10th, and you can vote once a day. If we get on it, 10,000 copies will be printed off and distributed at the festival. That's pretty f'ing sweet. ALSO - We'll be doing a string of 4 dates with the Violent Femmes! Yeah! Check the tour page for more info...

Some summer vacation...
Ah, West Plains. We love coming home. You guys are so good to us, and we can't thank you enough for coming back again and again. We're already putting together idea's for our next show. We'll guarantee you new music and a great time, so go ahead and lay out your clothes. :) Hope you guys are enjoying the new Ha Ha Tonka shirts! Our thanks to Chance Bone for the artwork as well as Audi, "Muscles" Mark McKnelly, and the whole Crossroads Design crew for doing such a great job getting everything together. We're really proud of the new stuff.
As you can see by our tour schedule, we're going to be taking some time off from now until the end of June. We've got some business to attend to with the release of the record, getting ready for the big fall tour, etc. Not to mention - we feel like we deserve a little time on the water like the rest of you all. :)
The next four weeks will fly by, and we'll be recharged and ready to rock like non other... so make sure to come and see us. Oh yeah! We'll be rockin' with Cloud Cult again too when we get back out! Fantastic...
See you all soon!

From Amsterband to Ha Ha Tonka
Why did we change the name, you ask?
There are a few reasons for us changing the name... none of which have anything to do with our style, members, label signing, etc. We are the same band moving in the same direction, only now with a new name. The foremost reason is because of two existing bands - "Amsterdam" (Based out of the UK) and "The New Amsterdams" (Kansas City, MO). Both bands are quite a bit higher on the "ladder-o-rock" at this point, so out of respect for them and some fear of confusion in the Amsterworld we decided it best to put some new letters in front of what we're doing. It had also came to our attention many times that "Amsterband" could and has backed us into the same corner as the "hippie jam band" world. That's a great world, but a far cry from what we're doing, so we couldn't help but feel a bit uneasy about that instant label... especially with the national release coming up, and the hope of some new and vast exposure. Please keep in mind, this was a daunting task for us. Ever since SXSW we've been battling with name after name to figure out what best suits us. The more we battled the more we realized that whatever name we picked we were pretty much going to have to grow into it rather than just instantly "be" that name. We've been "Amsterband" for so long now... how could we just put on a new outfit and not have people think it's strange? So after more than a month of tossing out names, laughing, crying, fighting and keeping all of this a secret, we have decided to go with a name completely original to the Ozarks. So without further ado…our new name is Ha Ha Tonka. All of you old fans, take it in. Say it to yourself a few times. Let it roll off the tongue. : ) Here's a little background from whence the new name is derived - http://www.mostateparks.com/hahatonka.htm
We ask that you please update and change all of your myspace and facebook stuff that says "Amsterband"... and just ride it. It'll grow on you. It has us. We love you guys for accepting us for who we are, name change or not, and we'll continue to do what we do…footstomp and be crazy. Ha Ha Tonka it is!
